Who we are Barbara Morrison started the business in the 1980s when she moved to the Isle of Lewis and found she needed a hat to keep her ears warm. The business snowballed from there and is now run by her daughter, Ruth Black. Ruth is ably assisted by her daughter, Mary Wood. Most of the photographs on this website feature Mary as the model. All three of us started our working careers doing other things - Barbara was a clinical biochemist before she moved to Lewis, Ruth studied biology and spent many years working as a school science technician. Mary started her working life in the retail industry but after a spell at college studying embroidery and design decided to join the family business. She has two daughters, and we hope it won't be many years before they come on board too! Barbara still makes hats at her home in Lewis despite being an octogenarian. Ruth and Mary started working from their homes but as the business expanded, now work from a studio 6 miles out of Inverness on the A862 Inverness to Beauly road. |

Barbara has a mobile phone pouch round her neck and Ruth is wearing the waistcoat that was the start of the Celtic knotwork experiment that led to expanding the business beyond the original hats.
